Coastal Hazard Statement

Statement as of 3:37 AM CST on November 22, 2014

Expires 11:00 PM EST on November 22, 2014

... Rip current risk in effect from 8 am CST this morning through
this evening...

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a rip
current risk... which is in effect from 8 am CST this morning
through this evening.

* Timing... the high rip current risk will be from this morning
through 10 PM this evening.

* Impacts... dangerous rip currents will continue to occur along
the Gulf facing beaches of the middle Texas coast. Both the
strength and frequency of these rip currents will result in
surf that is dangerous for swimmers... especially around
jetties and piers. These rip currents are dangerous to even
experienced swimmers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.

If you become caught in a rip current... do not panic. Remain calm
and begin to swim parallel to shore. Once you are away from the
force of the rip current... begin to swim back to the beach. Do
not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Even a strong
swimmer can become exhausted quickly.

Special Statement

Statement as of 6:46 AM CST on November 22, 2014

Expires 2:15 PM EST on November 22, 2014

... Severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon and evening...

A powerful storm system over northern Mexico this morning will
move across Texas tonight. As the storm encounters moisture and
instability over the region... thunderstorms will develop and some
of the storms could become severe.

There will be potentially two rounds of severe weather today
across the area. Round one will be during the afternoon hours when
scattered to numerous storms will affect the northern coastal Bend
and Victoria Crossroads... mainly north of a Rockport to Beeville
to Three Rivers line. These storms will be capable of producing
large hail... damaging winds and possibly a tornado.

Round two will be during the evening hours when a squall line is
expected to impact all of south Texas. Damaging straight line
winds and large hail will be the threats with the evening storms
but a tornado cannot be ruled out.
